Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
GLW is committed to ensuring the safety of our athletes during practices and competitions. This plan provides a framework for maintaining safety and responding to emergencies until professional medical personnel arrive.
This document establishes mandatory guidelines for athlete safety, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness.
Coach Responsibilities:
Documentation: Maintain the EAP and have access to athlete emergency contact information at all times.
Facility & Equipment: Ensure athletes use proper gear. Report equipment damage to parents and facility issues to the Program Director.
Injury Management: Assess all injuries to determine if an athlete can continue or requires medical intervention.
Emergency Procedures: If 911 is called, designate someone to meet EMS at the main entrance of the Training Center. Provide dispatch with the caller’s information, the athlete’s condition, and any first aid rendered.
Athlete Responsibilities:
Arrive with the proper equipment and own water supply. A drinking fountain is available on-site for refills.
Immediately report all illnesses or injuries to a coach.
Avoid contact with teammates if diagnosed with a contagious illness.
Injury Protocols:
Head/Neck: Stabilize the head (do not remove headgear) and check consciousness. Call 911 if unresponsive.
Fractures: Stabilize the extremity. Call 911 for open fractures or visible deformities.
Cardiac/Seizure: Call 911 immediately if the individual is incoherent. Locate the AED for suspected heart concerns.
The coaching staff will review and update this plan annually.
